Goin to Siquijor - Day 1

Just a month ago (July 2014),  my friend and I went to Siquijor as our first stop to our 8-day travel itinerary in Visayas.  Initailly we only plan to visit Bacolod and Iloilo for a foodie adventure but we figured out to visit Dumaguete as well as the island of  Siquijor. So we changed our plan and booked a flight to Dumaguete, our jump off point to Siquijor.  For about Php 1,900 (~$44)  per person, we were able to book a one-way trip to Dumaguete via Cebu Pacific (https://www.cebupacificair.com/)

We took the first flight to Dumaguete at  7:00 AM and we arrived around 8:15 AM.  Outside the Dumaguete airport, there were a few tricycles waiting already which costs Php 120 (~$3) going to ferry.  Though this is a little expensive because tricycle fare here is just Php 9 per person. So if you want to save some and you don't have many luggage with you, just walk for about 200 meters for a cheaper fare.
Inside the tricycle, I was trying to take photos of the city.

After 10 minutes travel, we were already at the ferry to buy tickets. The next available trip would be 10:00 AM via GL Shipping Lines at Php 140 (~$3.5) per person plus Php 15 termina fee.  I prefer Ocean Jet though it's more expensive at Php 210 (~$5) per person but it's bigger and faster than GL.  Unfortunately, Ocean Jet boat will depart at 12:50 pm and I cannot wait any longer to see Siquijor:(

Aleson Trip Schedule

We only avail GL Express because this was the only available that time. But given another chance  I would think twice to ride this again.  1. Very old and  2. It's noisy - I guess the noise is coming from the engine.  the loud sound is really irritating, just imagine you're like a small creature inside a person's mouth while the dentist is drilling a tooth. 3. I can't take the smell of gas fumes circulating inside the airconditioned area. Can you imagine riding in this boat for more than an hour?  Plus the fact that the there were strong waves due to Hanging Habagat that time ( Southwest Monsoon).  - I can tolerate the waves but my head was aching due to the gas smell and the load sound. I don't know what to cover, my ears or my nose, just kidding. But I covered my nose the whole time. I wanted to go up to the top view deck to catch some fresh air though the boat was moving against the waves, turning from side to side at about 30-45 degrees. You cannot even stand to go to the rest room. I saw someone was praying and I kept on looking on my watch and and I started praying too.

After 1 hour and 15 minutes rough ride, at last we landed safely but nauseated, lightheaded and drugged by the gas fumes.  Glad we made it!

Tip:  From Dumaguete to Siquijor,  take Ocean Jet that will leave 12:50 pm.  If you're coming from Dumaguete Airport and it's early. Roam around Dumaguete City since tricycle here is so cheap, take your breakfast along Bay area while waiting. I highly recommend Ocean Jet especially when you're travelling with kids. On our way back, we took the Oceanjet and left at 1:50 pm and it only took us around 45 minutes to Dumaguete.

Question:  Is it worth crossig Siquijor from Dumaguete?
Answer: YES!!! I'm so inlove with this island.  On my next post, you'll know why.
